How do I know my level?
Before you register for classes, you will attend an orientation and take a placement test. The noncredit orientation, testing and registration process takes about 3 hours.
Will I be on a waiting list?
The noncredit ESL classes are open entry – open exit. Because students often change their schedules and can’t continue classes, we keep waiting lists for each class. If you are on a waiting list, we will send you a letter telling you your level, the class you are waiting for and your “number” on the waiting list.
How long will I be on a waiting list?
It depends on which class you choose. However, as soon as space is available, we will call you or send you an email telling you to come to class.
What if my contact information changes?
Please come into the office or call and let us know your new address, phone number or email. If you forget, you will not receive letters or applications from us. You can also change your contact information yourself in the MyCOM Portal.
What if my schedule changes?
Please call or come to the ESL Office in the Academic Center Room 109. We will transfer you to a different section of the same level if there is room in the class. If there isn’t room, we may have to put you on the waiting list for that class.
What if the class is too easy or too difficult?
You can talk to the teacher. If it feels too difficult, your teacher can transfer you to the level below. If it seems too easy, your teacher will decide if you are ready to move up and if there is room in the next class.
Is there homework?
Yes!
How do I move up to the next level?
Towards the end of each semester your teacher will give you an assessment to see if you are ready to move on to the next level. The teacher will use this score together with what she knows from seeing you in class to determine if you are ready.
What is the Drop Policy?
If you miss more than four consecutive classes without calling, your teacher may drop from the class. If you want to come back to class, you must ask in the office. If there is a waiting list, you will be put at the end of the list. If you plan to be gone for a long time, please ask your teacher.

¿Como puedo saber mi nivel?
Usted tomará un examen de nivel antes de inscribirse a clases. El examen de inglés sin crédito y el proceso de inscripción duran alrededor de 3 horas.
¿Estare en la lista de espera?
Las clases de Inglés como segundo idioma sin crédito, son de entrada y salida libre. Mantenemos una lista de espera para cada clase porque varios estudiantes cambian sus horarios y no pueden continuar asistiendo a clases. Si usted se encuentra en la lista de espera, le mandaremos una carta diciéndole su nivel, la clase para la cual usted está esperando, y su lugar o número en la lista.
¿Cuánto tiempo estaré en la lista de espera?
Esto depende de la clase que usted haya escogido. Sin embargo, en cuanto haya espacio, le mandaremos correo electrónico indicándole que ya se puede presentar a clases.
¿Qué pasa si cambio de dirección?
Le pedimos de favor que acuda a la oficina o que acceda al portal en línea para hacer los cambios con su nueva dirección y/o número de teléfono. Recuerde que ya no recibirá cartas ni formularios de inscripción en su domicilio, pero es importante mantenerlos al corriente. También puede cambiar su información de contacto usted mismo en el portal MyCOM.
¿Qué pasa si cambia mi horario?
Le pedimos de favor que acuda a la oficina de inglés como segunda idioma, Academic Center, Room 109, ó nos llame por teléfono. Le transferiremos a otra clase del mismo nivel que tenga cupo. Si no hay cupo, lo más probable es que te coloquemos en otra lista de espera.
¿Qué hago si la clase es demasiada difícil o fácil?
Puede hablar con su profesor. Si la clase se siente demasiado complicado, su profesor puede transferirlo a un nivel menor. Si la clase le parece demasiado sencilla, su profesor decidirá si usted está listo para subir de nivel. También se tomará en cuenta el cupo del nivel al cual deseas transferirte.

¿Cómo avanzo al siguiente nivel?
Al final de cada semestre su profesor le dará un examen para ver si usted está listo para avanzar al siguiente nivel. Su profesor utilizará el resultado de este examen, y lo que sabe de tu participación en clase, para determinar si usted se encuentra listo para avanzar al siguiente nivel.
Reglamento de asistencia y bajas académicas
Si usted falta a más de cuatro clases seguidas y no avisa, será dado de baja de la clase. Si usted desea reingresar a la clase, deberá consultar la oficina. Si hay lista de espera, usted será colocado al final de la lista. Favor de consultar con su profesor si usted planea estar ausente por un tiempo considerable.
