Noncredit ESL Classes

Foundational Skills ESL Classes: 

Beginning to Intermediate ESL (Free)

(See Course Outline of Record website for descriptions of these classes).
Levels 10 through 40 teach vocabulary and grammar using all skills: Reading and Writing, Listening, Speaking and Pronunciation

ESLN 10A, 10B, 10L, and 10X

  • You don’t know ANY English. 
  • You know a little English, but you do not how to make a sentence or ask a question. 
  • You are beginning make simple sentences and questions, but don’t have confidence yet. 

ESLN 20, 20L, 20X, 25, and 25X

You will:

  • practice asking and answering basic questions.
  • use vocabulary to describe everyday people, places and things.
  • talk about yesterday, today and tomorrow.
  • explain what you want and need, or can do or have to do.
  • say what you like better.

ESLN 30, 30L, and 30X

You will:

  • talk about your experiences in life and at work.
  • describe how your life was before.
  • describe daily actions in the simple present or past tenses.
  • use more verbs and verb forms.

ESLN 35, 35L, and 35X

You will:

  • develop your English skills through listening, speaking, reading and writing activities.
  • learn the difference between the simple and progressive tenses.
  • learn to express permission, ability, advice or obligation.
  • read more and begin to create longer sentences and simple paragraphs.

ESLN 40A, 40B, 40L and 40X

You will:

  • distinguish between simple past and present perfect tenses.
  • create questions using the correct word order.
  • master spelling rules and learn common irregular verb forms
  • review modals for permission, possibility, ability, advice and obligation.
  • read low intermediate readings and books in English.
  • write simple organized paragraphs with correct pronunciation.

ESLN 10A, 10B, 10L, and 10X

ESLN 35, 35L, and 35X

ESLN 40A, 40B, 40L and 40X
